What to Do When Dentures Don't Fit

In prior generations, having dentures was considered inevitable. They were an affordable solution for replacing teeth when a majority of them were in bad shape or unsavable. Having dentures allowed people to chew better, digest well and feel better about the appearance of their smiles. Today, dentures are still a good option in some cases, but not as common as they used to be.

If you or someone you care for has dentures, it's important to know that regular home care and dental visits are still important. We recommend that our denture wearers still brush their gums and mouth to remove bacteria and biofilm that can contribute to infections or even overall health issues. Dentures also need to be brushed carefully with a soft brush daily and benefit from using a denture cleaner or ultrasonic cleaning device on a regular basis.

Keeping your dentures fitting well is critical to their success and your comfort and that is where we come in. Dentures rest on your gums and the bone that supports them. Over time, this bone will wear away causing the dentures to start to feel loose or sloppy. This can cause denture wearers to become self conscious about their smiles or afraid that their teeth will fall out when around others. It can lead to them isolating themselves and losing confidence as well as painful sores, poor digestion, and further damage to the bone in their mouths. Chronic irritation may even lead to cancerous lesions.

It is important for dentures wearers to see their dentist to have their dentures adjusted regularly and to check the health of their mouths. If they don't, the bone can deteriorate to the point where dentures cannot be made to fit anymore.

The good news is that whether you have had dentures for awhile or are considering them for the first time, we have an option that can help eliminate these problems. Implant supported dentures are more stable than any others, look good, feel good and last a long time. They do not damage bone or become sloppy over time.

Dental implants are implanted into the jaw where the natural roots would have been for your teeth. We commonly recommend 4 for each arch to provide a strong foundation for the false teeth. Dentures will be made that snap onto them and stay secure.

Implant supported dentures are a game changer that have improved the health and well-being of thousands of denture wearers.
